Historical

Historique du Montagnard In 1997, Pierre Thérien decided to spend the summer in the Eastern Townships, a part of Quebec which he did not know yet. A hiking enthusiast, he often walked in front of the 264 Maple property in Sutton, which was for sale and had been unoccupied for almost two years. One day, he was invited to visit the premises by the property's caretaker. He literally fell in love with the place and thought to himself that perhaps he could become the owner. After renting the place for the winter of 1997-1998, he decided to buy it the very next spring.

Answering the phone with one hand and using his hammer with the other, Mr. Thérien made major renovations, purchased a new chalet, and extended the existing infrastructures (reception, multipurpose room, bar, etc). In November 2003, the establishment obtained a "3-star" hotel classification from Hébergement Québec.

Other projects are now "on the table" and Le Montagnard continues its evolutio for its visitors' delight.

During the fall of 2007-2008, a hotel was built next to the 2003 construction. Now, a 3 story building houses hotel rooms, conference room, and reception room. Le Montagnard is the only establishment to have a double hotel classification *(Hotel and Tourism residence) from Hébergement Québec. For our Hotel section, our objective is a 4 star classification.
